In August 2006, MarketingSherpa surveyed 3000 companies and revealed that 74% do SEO in-house and 73% manage their own PPC campaigns. The SEO figure seems rather high and it is possible that a lot of people think that SEO is something they can read in an article and implement in a few minutes. Many people still think that SEO consists of filling "meta tags" or writing repetitive text to meet some "keyword density" target.

The need for SEO/PPC

Many websites cannot be found when people search for generic phrases such as "Sydney dentist" or "Perth plumber". Some can't even be found for their business name. This isn't the fault of the web designer - the customer seldoms asks for top ranking features and very few designers have SEO training.
